Ski Trip!

Well, I was going to post this yesterday, until I got sleepy. So you get it today instead!

This last weekend was my second time going on an annual ski trip. The trip has been going on for a fair number of years, but The Wife and I have only gone twice now. It has been a blast both times.

I’m not really a ‘do-er’. I tend to be more comfortable wearing a divot in the couch than I am getting out and doing things. I’m ok with this most of the time. I enjoy staying comfy and cozy indoors, so I see no trouble with this. It occasionally becomes a point of contention with The Wife.

She likes to do stuff. She likes to see what’s happening, to be involved and to get up and go. She likes to do things with other people and generally have a good time. Sometimes me being a sofa spud can get frustrating. I think it’s a good thing that we both really enjoy skiing/snowboarding.

That said, she enjoys the skiing, and I prefer the snowboarding. I believe I have mentioned it before, but I have a pre-existing medical condition with my left hip. Skiing contains the potential for my two legs to end up going different directions, and I suspect that would end worse for me than for some others. I chose snowboarding, where my two feet are stuck to the same object.

We went last year, and while we were there we took a group lesson. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time out and about practicing last year, partly because day 2 was very icy. We started this year on our own, and quickly found that we needed more guidance. We went ahead an got private lessons.

It ended up outstanding. We both picked up enough of the basics in our lessons to feel comfortable going out on our own. We went out for a few hours each day on Saturday and Sunday. We came home on Monday.

It’s a great little break in the middle of our winter. It’s a mini-vacation! I’m really looking forward to next year already, and maybe we’ll even get to go someplace nearby and get some practice in.

We may also have to look into getting our own equipment. If we keep going, renting will get expensive soon!

Quick Update

Sorry for missing you yesterday.

I wasn’t able to stop by yesterday for a couple of reasons. The first and most important was that I was out of town all weekend. The second is that because I was out of town all weekend, including yesterday, I am a little off my schedule.

I ended up with a 3 day weekend this last weekend. I left home on Friday morning, and went out of town straight from work. I didn’t get home until about 4 pm yesterday. So I am just now getting back in a normal rhythm.

I’ll go into a little more detail tomorrow, but I was snowboarding this weekend. A little winter holiday if you will. Have no fear, I’m fine.

Until tomorrow, with the whole recap! See you then.

Oh man

Well this is embarrassing.

I forgot Friday was a weekday. Yup. Just forgot.

I didn’t even register that it was still a day during the week once I got home last night. I pretty much shut my brain off for the weekend. That may prove to be a problem for later this weekend when I need to think.

Too late for worrying about it now. Time to go watch championship college football games.

In apology for forgetting you last night, I leave you with a picture of a kitten. You’re welcome.

Not Quite Enough

There is not quite enough time in the day.

There is just not enough time to get caught up every day with all the things you want or need to. We’re probably also short a weekday. We spend most of the weekend getting caught up on the things we weren’t able to do during the week.

I had a day just last week where I felt like What I wanted to do, What I felt like doing, What I needed to do and what I was going to do had absolutely no commonality. That’s very frustrating. Nothing was going to work itself out.

That’s another one of those times that you end up feeling helpless. Things feel out of control. It’s especially bad when you really don’t feel like doing anything, but you don’t want to be doing what you’re already doing.

If we had a few more hours in the day, and an additional weekend, we’d be ok. For awhile anyway. What really needs to change is society. We’re too far gone though. No way that we’re going to get our current society to back down from the run run run, go go go lifestyle we’ve created.

We could always shorten the work day. That would allow us a little more time each day. Trouble with that is, people are blinded by money. We all think that the more we work, the more money we’ll all make. That’s completely untrue.

As a country, the USA is less productive per hour than other countries. It’s because we’re all unhappy at work, we’re stressed and overworked, and we put a higher value on working, than efficiency and results.

Maybe one of these days we’ll stop being stubborn long enough to see that other countries have it figured out. Until then, we’re going to keep having days with too few hours.

Still Here!

No big post tonight/this morning.

It’s Friday/Saturday, and I have a full day ahead of me tomorrow. I stayed out too late tonight and now I’m super sleepy.

Mock me if you will, I will soon be donning my jammies and curling up in bed. Dreaming little dreams of me.

Something like that. Have a good weekend, I’m sure I will.

Sore Throat?

Sore Throat? (Photo credit: tim ellis)

I am beat. I was out of town on.. let’s call it a celebratory weekend. There were adult beverages involved. There was lots of sun and water involved. I am tired.

The worst part is that yesterday, I seemed to have lost my voice a little bit. ‘It’s fine,’ I said, ‘No big deal. I’ll go to bed and even if it’s weird tomorrow, I just won’t talk much at work.’ Let me tell you how THAT worked out: It didn’t.

I woke up this morning with a still sore throat. So I figured less talking at work, no sweat. I had nothing but talking that I had to do today.

Also, after about 2 hours, nothing was giving up on the sore throat front. I was also super wiped out. By the afternoon, I figured out that it wasn’t just a sore throat. I have sinus issues today too.

I also had to go to the grocery store.

Don’t worry, I’m home now. I think I’ll go ahead and pass out now.

K thanks. Bye.

TGIF (Taunting Golfers Is Fun)

I’m actually only giving the one guy I work with a hard time. He’s beien leaving early a couple days a week to play golf. It really doesn’t make any difference to me, it’s not like there’s anything going on right at the moment that he’s getting out of.

I generally meant the title in the standard definition. I just thought I’d post a little something for Friday afternoon/to get you through the weekend.

I have been really dragging these last couple of weeks. I’ve been looking forward to the weekends what seems like an inordinate amount to me. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe, even at the tender young age of 26 going on 27, I’m getting excited for my birthday.
There isn’t any particular reason that I’m looking forward to my birthday. I haven’t made any special plans, or special requests this year. Maybe I’m just being a big old kid, like I talked about yesterday.
